Bergamo is one of the 4 Italian cities (with Ferrara, Lucca and Grosseto),whose old town is still completely surrounded by walls. Bergamo Alta (also
known as “Città Alta” as opposed to the lower villages) is a medieval town surrounded by ramparts erected in the sixteenth century, under Venetian
domination. The centre develops around the old square Piazza Vecchia and hosts monuments of great value as the Cathedral and the Colleoni Chapel.
